My mam is kind of a bellwether for the average Irish voter and she’s voting Connolly. It might be hers to lose.

Connolly will win, but only because of the sheer contempt or athapy the public hold Humphrey and Gavin

Such a dull election, all the candidates are boring… I guess that’s a price to pay to stop scrotes like McGregor running.

Also why does CC go as Independent when she was previously part of Labour and got nominated from their backing?

The establishment spent all week saying the debate was a draw, the public overwhelmingly thought Catherine Connolly won.

The establishment mocked Sinn Féin endorsing Catherine Connolly as not being a gamechanger.

The establishment have thrown everything at Catherine Connolly all week.

Yet here she is, polling 50%+ after Jim Gavin is eliminated. This is the chance to elect a President that sends a message to the establishment.

The Áras belongs to the people. Not FF/FG.

She’d be my natural inclination but she has such a tendency to shoot her mouth off. Prob still vote for her but feel I’ve little choice.

Connolly is nearly a good candidate, but I worry she has a tendency to say or do things that could seriously undermine our credibility on the international stage.

As for the other two, they’re uninspiring choices with little to show for themselves and no real presence or charisma. That said, they’d probably keep a low profile and manage their roles without drawing too much attention or causing controversy.

Honestly, I’m finding it hard to choose between the three. If a fourth, even moderately competent option were available, the decision would be simple.

Those “who won the debate” numbers are an absolute massacre. 6% for Humphreys and 5% for Gavin, even the vast majority of their own party supporters couldn’t bring themselves to make a case for them.

      Uninspiring candidates.

No doubt Connolly was the best in the debate but some of her views are a bit concerning.

30% undecided, still a huge amount of votes at play for.

Pity a giant douche and a shit sandwich aren’t on the ballot paper

No one can hold a candle to Michael D, so any candidate will fall short by comparison. Catherine Connolly is by far the most intelligent, experienced and competent of the 3, and would be a worthy President imo. Nobody has the statesmanlike intellectual robustness of MDH.

All candidates are uninspiring, but Connelly has my vote.

It’s basically 1v2. Humphries will get transfers or Gavin will get transfers. Connolly will struggle

    14. Tricky_Sweet3025 on

Realistically what preference of FPV would she need to not lose out on transfers?

Anyone I’ve spoken to about it have said they’re either not voting or they haven’t made their mind up yet

Lots of chat, remember when SF self elected themselves, this could easily happen again.
