Sounds like they were going to try block the Tunnel so Gardai only doing their job, fair play…..

Some of the twitter accounts I saw sharing this video really didn’t get the response they wanted from it.

Its clear from the video that the Gardai gave the protestors loads of chances to back up. They kept pushing and tried to break the garda cordone.

The protestors stepped back fairly lively when they were sprayed.

Great news. Blocking the tunnel did nothing but damage to their “cause”

While I’m all for protests and support for Palestine, blocking the port tunnel is extremely dangerous. If a vehicle went on fire or there was a medical emergency in the tunnel, life would be at risk.

Gardai did nothing to the right wingers who done the same during evening rush hour several times in the past.
Probably knew they’d get a bit more hassle back.

I’m all on for them protesting and highlighting the genocide in Gaza but take it to O’Connell st. Hand out leaflets, march or have speakers but just stop blocking people from going to or from work. It does nothing for their cause but annoy and turn people against them.

People don’t seem to understand that a protest where everything is very orderly and nobody inconvenienced in any way may as well not exist as far as those in power are concerned

    8. There’s ways to protest and gather momentum and support but these protests over the last few days have done nothing but cause headaches and piss the people off more

Just Stop Oil ended up alienating everyone in Britain with their at times dangerous behavior and announced they quit. Just be sensible and you’ll remain a popular cause.

I’m 100% against genocide, however doing bullshit like this is going to turn people against them. They’re no better than those Just Stop Oil whack jobs

Serious question why do pro Palestine protesters act like asses literally in the most pro Palestine country in the EU

They already have the crowd on their side but they do this and it alienated average people and it’s dangerous seriously

Youd nearly wonder are Israel paying these people to do this

I was out that way this evening. Most protests are grand, there’s an agreed space set out for them and there’s an ambulance etc.

These protestors were just assholes. Constant agro from them.

Honestly if I were a guard I’d not have been able to resist the temptation to baton charge them.

They broke past where they’d agreed to stay and started to move up towards the port tunnel to block that, seemingly on a whim. Gards tried to negotiate, protestors told ‘em to swivel, pepper spray was deployed.

Sometimes I’m glad to see the gards hold the line.

There was absolutely none of this behavior from the gardai when racist thugs were setting patrol cars and buses on fire in the city centre last year, not so much as a whisper of pepper spray at any of the arson attacks on asylum seeker accomodation. The hypocrisy and double standards from the gardai are both naked and infuriating.

More than that though, I’m appalled at all the people in the comments saying “serves them right,” or anything of that variety. The whole of Rome was shut down last week – traffic bumper to bumper throughout the whole city, and every video or interview with a citizen I saw was delivered with a smile and solidarity, understanding of the cause. We’re so bloody touchy here that you can’t protest a genocide or an existential threat to human life like climate change unless you do it in the right way, in the right place, without bothering anyone. The whole point of protests are to stir people to action by halting business as usual. You’re meant to be sat stalled in your car and ask yourself “is it more important that I get to work on time, or that the genocide stops.” What are all of you doing? If you cant be arsed to get up and stand for what’s right, then who are you to criticize how others are doing that? Shame on anybody taking the side of the police. It takes serious balls to stand down against a line of riot cops with batons and pepper spray, and they were right to do it.

Same crowd stoped 3 boats from entering port the other day. Up to 4-hour delays.

You know what’s on most boats into Dublin Port? Horses and other animals.

It’s a horrible thing to keep them longer than they’re supposed to be there, and they have to sail because flying a horse is … impractical.

Poor animals spend almost 4 hours extra in their boxes in the heat.

I don’t think they realise that acting the bolocks like these, not just doesn’t get them any support,  but it makes more people hate them and their cause. Then again, that’s probably the point.

Protest the American Embassy instead, the stuff they were doing yesterday causing everyone to be stuck in traffic for ages just pisses off normal people . It’s not like Ireland is a pro zionist country anyway .
