      ‘Speaking during RTÉ’s live Presidential Election debate today, Mr Gavin said: “That matter was over 16 years ago. It was a very stressful time for myself and my family.

      “Like a lot of families and couples, we came into financial difficulty at that time.”

      Mr Gavin said: “If it happened, I’m very sorry that it happened. I’m looking into it and I will deal with it with urgency.”’

      Didn’t realise this was all about how you feel Jim? Spare a thought for the poor person he kept €3300 from (reportedly)

      I’m not even going to pretend I don’t want to say I told you so, he was always a smug git that would never be likeable to the electorate.

      Grateful for all the unintended comedy his anointing by Martin has led to, though.

      Listening to that self-serving shite reminds me so much of Bertie and his ‘dig-outs’. I thought we had moved on from that shite but clearly not. Apart from the despicable action, to appear on a presidential debate and not have that sorted out in advance shows contempt for both the tenant and the electorate

      I’m pretty sure JG didn’t lose his PS job and was unlikely to have taken a considerable pay cut at any stage during the last recession…therefore if he got into financial difficulties it was through careless financial management …to compare himself with thousands of people who got into difficulties through loss of business’s and jobs through no fault of their own is utterly disingenuous and the fact it hasn’t been paid back tells so much about the character of the man..
