Let me guess, it became no longer “fit for purpose” 5th July 2024?

The ECHR is the reason why people now have decent rights against their employers, gives rights to have freedom, protection from slavery and discrimination. It does ablot more than just works with immigration.

If those CONservatives want to jump on the Reform bandwagon and want to leave because of one aspect, there’s another good reason that party should crawl into obscurity.

Brexit all over again. Using immigration outrage to convince the working class to kick themselves in the nuts.

Winston Churchill, who thought the ECHR was mandatory for any country pretending to be civilized, is spinning in his grave right now. But that was when tories opposed authoritarian regimes, not tried to be one.

Plus it’s easier to blame some defined other than admit the current mess is largely due to policies put in place during 14 years in power.

    5. Given you can’t work out the Tories aren’t fit for purpose your ability to judge what’s fit for purpose is not fit for purpose.

Brain dead nonsense. The commissioning of a 200-page report by a party loyalist (Lord Wolfson) is not a search for truth; it is a pre-ordained exercise in manufacturing credibility. The “problem” of being blocked by the ECHR will be replaced by the new, more profitable “problems” of legal chaos, diplomatic isolation, and a perpetual culture war over a British Bill of Rights, not to mention the Good Friday Agreement.

That’s why EHCR isn’t fit for purpose because you can’t do nazi behaviour

So, a senior CONservative doesn’t like it. “Reform” doesn’t like it, Putin doesn’t and I suspect that the US Paedophile in chief doesn’t either.
I see a pattern that strongly recommends the ECHR!

ideally. we could leave the ECHR and trust our government to work in our best interests

      ideally….

      There’s Scottish Tories? Who knew?

Any politician who supports the removal of ECHR should be investigated for corruption, because they’re being bribed by someone…

The application is the problem. Other countries signed up to it don’t have as many issues as the UK. Also we only hear about the minority of cases where is hasn’t helped

When are the Tories merging with Reform , is the question on the wall.

      And *as minor partners*

If the ECHR is erased, you can all say goodbye to your worker’s rights, your minimum required time off, your minimum wage, and your basic human rights. Because if you think for a moment that the rich fks in charge are going to maintain the rights you currently have in whatever “new” human rights Bill they intend to create, then you’re in for a very rude awakening.

Your right to not be forced to work 18 hours straight? Gone. Your right to choose to leave your current job whenever you want? Gone. And you can all kiss goodbye to any kind of protections relating to pay. The rich will make sure they don’t even have to pay you at all if they can. And they CAN.

“That pesky thing that’s stopping us from treating everybody like shit even more than we already do isn’t fit for purpose”

Cant we just copy everything it has and take out the handful of things that aren’t working for us

    16. TheChaoticCrusader on

I mean I agree but I disagree about abandoning it too . With 70 years worth of changed history the ECHR needs to be worked for the digital age and potentially talked and changed in certain areas to work in this new age . When we think how much has changed since its introduction
