I mean if the schools only offers Welsh and we are deploying them there we should pay it’s really simple

‘Plaid Cymru called it a “complete waste of money” and “an insult to our language”.’

Oh get a life. As if suddenly being taught in a different language wouldn’t be disruptive to a child’s education and they get enough of that already.

Does anyone genuinely disagree with this ?

If moving military families there, seems fairly reasonable to want their kids to continue to be taught in English?

    4. Welsh people are entitled to their culture. English people living temporarily in Wales, eg because the military has moved their family there, are entitled to their culture too.

Children shouldn’t be compelled to learn Welsh because the government decided to reassign their parent(s).

I don’t really get this. If you want your own language schools then you have to accept that not everyone will want to go to them if they are there for a couple of years.

I’m assuming we have the same issues for military families stationed in places like Germany and Kenya. I hate that feeling butthurt gives you some sort of power nowadays.

      >Plaid Cymru’s education spokesperson Cefin Campbell MS said “not only is this a complete waste of money, it is an insult to our language”.

Is their education spokesperson a complete idiot or do they not actually give a fuck about education.

Can they not imagine what it would be like turning up to a school at age 14 preparing for your GCSEs and you are not only in a different school with different teachers and different classmates, but you are being taught in a language you don’t understand.

Are there Welsh-only school options then?
In South Wales there’s typically one or two state Welsh language secondary school per local authority. Usually it’s more hassle than the English language school to attend (because further). In those English language it’s only a few hours a fortnight in Welsh (like any modern.language) but with some Welsh used throughout the day in very basic ways.

Is the issue that only Welsh language education is available?

‘Defence ministry spends millions on private schools to avoid Welsh language’ Yeh cheers for that u/TheHess

This policy makes total sense for secondary school age kids, but I reckon primary age kids could pick up the lingo pretty quick.

The reality of the situation is there are plenty of state English medium schools in North Wales but it is a requirement to learn Welsh as a second language up to age 16. Roughly 2 hours a week, though that is up to the school.

As any sensible person should realise, being taught Welsh and being taught in Welsh are completely different things. But Nationalists (wherever they are, not just Welsh ones) are rarely sensible.

I presume it is the same should the parent be sent to Germany or Cyprus for example.
