First step of criticising a project is being able to spell the name of it right.

    2. JoyOfUnderstanding on

It’s Nord Stream 2, not North Stream 2.

This project undermined stability in Central (or Eastern if you will) Europe.

It was one of the reasons why Russia thought they might get away with invading Ukraine.

    3. Shadowbringers on

Fuck NordStream 2. Good riddance and give a medal to the perpetrators.

    4. vorumaametsad on

Germany must understand that there is close to no sympathy for Germany for someone having blown up NS2. We get that it was illegal, we just don’t care. You yourself pushed someone to do this. We all told you NS2 was a strategic mistake…

    5. itskelena on

Merkel has really fucked up and she continues to double down on that. Tusk is right.

*We told you that 20 years ago.*

There’s three problems with Russian gas pipelines. **Russian**, **Gas**, **Pipeline**.

    7. Trimax42 on

North Stream 2 was basically a project that happened because, except the Greens, every major german party has/had very close connections to russia. Corruption at its best…

    8. What Tusk says is that democracy is the problem and terrorism isn’t.

He probably signed it off when he was in the corridors of Brussels.

Diabolic take, the NS2 was keeping the heavy industry in germany alive basically. No wonder since the start of the war German economy is tanking.

Anyway, clearly the NS2 was against US interest, that is why it has been blow up. (1:37, [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4O8rGRLf8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS4O8rGRLf8) ). Now we europeans are importing tons of LNG on tankers from the US at much higher price than russian gas.

Clearly being energetically dependent by a state like Russia, which as an antagonistic approach to the EU has not been a great geopolitical move, but it was working until some of the main political figures in EU were still able to negotiate with Putin.

    11. Econ_Orc on

Denmark did try to rebrand it as EU infrastructure, and by that make it something the EU could debate or say no to.

    12. KomischesFischauge on

From a Polish perspective, definitely. Because Poland lost billions because of it.

    13. Svardskampe on

I think, as Europe, we deserve a “we were wrong” message about nord stream 2 (and 1 maybe, but we can see the different nuances in different times) from primarily Germany.

Other countries latched on to this and we can try to shift blame. But also we can understand under circumstances things showed to be different.

All I want to see from Germany is simply them saying “sorry, we misjudged the political implications from this [nord stream 2]”, but now we are dealing with it and we’ll move on.

Just provide this apology. Zero cost. Zero losses in power. Anyone can make a mistake.

      Just fucking admit it.

    14. TeaOk9685 on

Poland didn’t kill North Stream, but they read its obituary with a smile.

    15. It was so bad that even Trump took time to shit on it during first term. Merkel left a really nice legacy…

    16. LolaBaraba on

Uno reverse card – Now Germany will demand reparations from Poland.

    17. Stabile_Feldmaus on

Cool now obey EU law and send us the arrested person.

    18. owlexe23 on

We all know Putin is bad, but this here is pure stupidity by the Europeans, it’s all good if the US sells us gas, who would have thought.

    19. He only says this because its not in Polish interest for it to exist, because it circumvents Poland and they cannot take transit payments for gas pipes going through Poland. Nordstream avoided Poland and so it was not in their economic interest, if it would have been a political stand against Russia they would not have allowed for gas to be transferred through Polish territory.

    20. Blowing up stuff is never the answer. Only on 31-12 (or 4-7 for dikes per gallon).

    21. So are why just ignoring the question of who committted a terrorist attack on European critical infrastructure because we don’t like that infrastructure?

    22. Only-Butterscotch785 on

Uhm what? nordstream 2 was a major european infrastructure that just got blown up without any reprecussions for anybody. Its a sign that the EU too weak to defend its own energy infrastructure.

    23. AdminEating_Dragon on

It would be great if we had a simple “We were wrong” press release from the countries (led by Germany) who were fans of relying on Russia for cheap energy and “peace through trade”.

Instead, they keep defending their past decisions.

    24. Sumdoazen on

If Tusk has many more of these based takes he’s gonna implode and create 2 Tusks which would create a black hole from that much baseness.

    25. Educational_Two8372 on

It will soon turn out that merel was russian agent. Migration crisis, nord stream2, appeasing russia…

    26. UPPERKEES on

Well, we once did the same with the Germans after WW2. Creating economic ties that make war unattractive. With Russia it failed because Russia is not a democracy and one crazy man can destroy everything.

    27. Ultimate_disaster on

      What an retard !
Nord Stream 2 was built to reduce Poland’s influence on Germany’s gas imports.
He or Poland was probably behind the sabotage, and that should have serious consequences if true.

    28. DE-NINE_ on

Funny that even China doesn’t want to go ahead building Power of Sibir 2 pipeline.
