Simply delicious.

Awesome. Look forward to seeing how much back tax the cunt owes

If he would have paid back last week or even before his campaign and explained about his financial difficulties at the time people would have understood. But he just looks like still he’s trying to wriggle his way out of paying and not taking responsibility. Doesn’t sound like he has the honour and owning up like a army man is meant to have. Also denying he saw any sexism in his time in the army, come on like honestly he was in army in 1990s definitely was bad sexism at the time. Thank God he’s been so exposed he would have been an awful president

If you’re claiming there are inaccuracies, you’d better name them. Saying unspecified inaccuracies is a complete cop-out. The tenant came across as very genuine on the podcast.

why does he need anything clarified to repay him?
Why is he spouting on about the statute of limitations being long gone to pursue it legally? Hes acknowledged the debt very recently, and unless my understanding is wrong, that resets the 6 year clock on the debt.
morally Gavin should pay the money and end the matter. But it seems hes morally bankrupt on this issue.

If he had cut a check the minute this was raised, it wouldn’t have become such a big issue. Also can’t claim there’s inaccuracies if you had no knowledge of this last week?

I had no strong opinion on Jim Gavin before this. I do now, he’s an absolute prick. How is he still making it worse for himself. Pay what you owe and fuck off.

I don’t understand why he didn’t pay and make it go away last week.

Hope Niall keeps public the ‘two conditions’ so Gavin has nowhere to hide. Fact their trying to impose conditions is some brass neck and shows low character, just pay the man and move on.
Absolute stupidity of Gavin, his legacy is now going to be the thief landlord instead of anything else.

Imagine after all the All-Ireland wins, the defence forces service and his various volunteer work, he will now be forever remembered as a crooked landlord who refused to pay back money to a tenant that wasn’t his, forcing a withdrawal from the presidential election.
What a fucking idiot this guy is with no honour or morals. He seems to still be dragging his feet on even acknowledging the issue and repaying the debt.

The whole thing is so grubby. I listened to the podcast this morning, and Niall Donald sounded like a very reasonable and decent person.
Yes, the country was going through tough times in 2016, but unlike lots of self-employed or unemployed people, Jim Gavin still had his secure, well paid job, and with a bit of management and prudence he should easily have been able to pay back the money owed, or at least put in place a schedule to pay it back over a reasonable time.
Very very bad form on his behalf, which has tarnished his reputation for a long time to come.

I listened to the podcast and I thought Niall Donald was more than fair, said he had been a good landlord and had no idea that he was in such bad financial straits at the time, admitted that it was his fault initially that he had forgotten to cancel the standing order but I was amazed that Jim Gavin still hasn’t paid back the money. Surely that would be the first thing you did after the story broke and you managed to remember you still owed this money.

Solicitor sounds like he’s holding open some vague threat of inaccuracies as a just-in-case for a defamation claim, in case his tenant was coming after him lock, stock and barrel (which it doesn’t sound like he is). Always have some leverage. They’ll probably also try and get him to sign some sort of an agreement to say this settles the matter in full, and if they’re cheeky they’ll try for an NDA.
In reality Jim should pay over the money, shut up, and go back to his nice well paid public sector job.

Tenant just needs to clarify two things:
1. “Who the feck do you think you are?”
2. “Why don’t you piss off back where you came from?”
And then Gavin will give him the dough.
