Non political Dad of 4 here. All kids of school age. Myself and herself both commute by car over 2 hours a day (80km each way, no public transport)
Costs are completely out of control, every penny earned is gone straight away just to keep afloat. And they hit us with a tax increase whilst simultaneously cutting Vat.
Now I know this is a click bait headline to some extent, and that there will be smaller business that will benefit, but personally, this move leaves me very bitter and is not one I’ll forget.
Our ‘elected representatives’ need to take a long hard look at themselves.

I thought fast food was bad for people, I thought there was the whole, lets fight obesity going on.
Interesting turn of events, now everyone you have to go out and support the local unhealthy food place, as they are vital to our economy, oh I mean money, money is important and the people running these places like money.
It’s all okay, don’t worry you’ll always have a job at wendy’s, when the shit hits the fan.

Would much prefer an income tax rate cut, vat cut will not be passed on.

Haha, I’m sure govt supporters remember this being in their manifesto’s when they voted last year….right?
I wouldn’t class them as a ‘meal’.

My tax went up, and McDonalds tax went down. We are getting railed from all sides, it cannot go on like this. Why is our standard of living constantly decreasing, should things not progress and get better?

I have no idea why this can’t be a progressive tax. 9% on first X amount of revenue and then back to the normal amount after that. Targeting the small businesses who need it.
Imagine if they scrapped PAYE bands and just applied a flat 30% to all income.

And these big chains will most definitely not pass on the saving. Its a kick in the nuts to hard working families. The government have truly messed up here.

The myopia is unreal. Minimum wage increased, that’s an increase to these businesses.
A lot of small restaurants and cafes are closing because of rising costs. If these restaurants close you end up with people on the dole with no employer taxes being paid. So the cost of this is not what it is being made out to be. Additionally people working in hospitality are generally poorly paid so the increase in minimum wage will help them.
I gained nothing from the budget but it does seem to be helping the worst off.

This really seems unnecessary, like they could have done something to separate out larger fast food chains etc,
Meanwhile on the housing side, they gave the VAT reduction to apartment construction only and not houses, so they made some separation there. I can see an argument for doing that as apartment construction has typically been more expensive than houses per unit but it seems a bit off that they can be selective in one situation and not the other.

I just wish people would stop voting them in.
In a literal cost of living crisis, they up’d tax. They didn’t change the tax brackets and no new credits.
Basically, it’s a “sure you ll vote us back in next time.”
I’m now losing money on increased bills and food inflation, and now I’m getting less due to a tax increase.
I’m so so so so so so fed up.

Im boycotting the entire restaurant industry. Fuck them. Let them starve. Cunts.
Sticking to the reduced section in lidl. If this is how the government wants to treat workers, then I’m not going to fucking participate in this economy insofar as I can help it, until I gather enough money to parachute to a better country altogether.
Fuck this country and Fuck Pat McDonagh. The man is a cancer.
