If anything comes from this, I’d like it to reduce the amount of gambling ads forced down our throats on every medium at every time of the day. How they get away with that is crazy. And yes, I’m looking at you friendly bingo & lotto ads, you can fuck off as well!

      Spent.

He spent his money betting on football.

Yes they can do better at protecting customers but he also needs to show some form of control.

Also they did check…he told them he was billy big bollocks and could afford it, they gave him a manager to liaise with him and hospitality worth thousands. They don’t do that for me with my 1 pound correct score bets.

Ah yes the old “shouldn’t have to face the consequences of my actions” approach.

While I have no sympathy for this guy in particular, I’m fully in favour of anything that makes gambling companies less predatory. And ban those fucking ads, kids don’t need to see them.

Take away the fact he’s a wealthy buy to let landlord for a minute. Gambling companies know for a fact if they keep people gambling, in the long run they will be taking money from people.

Gambling addictions are real and harmful, if this was a tobacco or alcohol company doing the same by constantly pushing free cigarettes or booze people wouldn’t say that a person should have more self control.

There needs to be more regulation on these companies that will happily ban winning players when they recognise they win too much but those who are losing are given gifts and incentives to keep losing.

Wanna know how to make a small fortune gambling? Start with a large one.

Theres absolutely more sympathetic examples that could be the face of this, but absolutely agree the involvement of gambling in sports is incredibly predatory and should be reigned in significantly.

We can dislike the guy and also think gambling companies need to have much harsher restrictions. Nobody wants 3 betting ads back to back whilst watching the football. Society has to deal with the effects of losing gamblers when they’re causing antisocial behaviour, or sending racist abuse to players online because they missed a chance. No doubt there’s a link to things like domestic abuse.

A complete ban on gambling advertising should be beneficial to the country.

This guy has no chance. Bookies have have no idea what someone’s finances are, so they have to assume someone wagering large amounts have the capacity to absorb the losses

Bookies have most things in place to stop problem gambling and to cover themselves. When you bet a lot you get prompts asking if you are aware. Also, the moment you take ‘timeouts’ for example you are then pretty much excluded from meaningful promotions. They would have had that available for him, but he obviously didn’t opt to do it

What next? I’m overweight and want to take all the food factories to court because I like food? I have a hangover, I want to take the pub brewery to court as I don’t know when to stop?
