Tbh I had a NHS text inviting me for my flu and covid , as I’m now of a certain age . Turned up was just eligible for the flu, which was fine by me, as I have no underlying conditions and still under 75 she said.
They were getting annoyed that the texts had been sent out like this and were misleading
But I and no else were angry …

My flatmate who has asthma and other health issues discovered this when she turned up for a booked appointment. She was annoyed, but managed to refrain from throwing things. I also have asthma, but I guess I’ll being going without a jab for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile in Ireland and it’s free for everyone
“You should get a free COVID-19 vaccine this autumn or winter if you:
are age 60 years and older
live in a long-term care facility and are age 18 or older
have a weak immune system
have a health condition that puts you at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19
Do this even if you got a COVID-19 vaccine earlier this year. This is so you have the best protection against COVID-19.
There is separate advice if you:
are a healthcare worker
are pregnant
have never had a COVID-19 vaccine
COVID-19 vaccination is safe and effective. It gives you the best protection against serious COVID-19 illness.
Information:
You can get a COVID-19 vaccine if you are over 18 and want one. You do not have to be in the groups a vaccine is recommended for. Talk to your GP”

Not sure why the cost-effective calculation for Covid only gives 75+, not pregnant woman and not carers whereas Flu is 65+, pregnant, carers, living with people with compromised immune systems.

It does seem a bit silly for them to be turning away up to half of the people wanting appointments, especially after all the insistence previously on how essential it is to do your civic duty and protect yourself against Covid.
Presumably most of the people trying to book still will be 60+, so it seems sensible enough for them to want to take precautions, I think that most other countries still recommend it for everyone over 65? There’s no excuse for getting abusive of course, but I can understand feeling frustrated that the advice has suddenly switched to oh *you* don’t need to bother with getting the booster after all
