Could they mount a rear gunner like with WW1 plane

I know these from red alert 2. Massive loitering time and just turn infantry to mincemeat unless they have rockets.

Why don’t you add two machine guns under the wings?

I had always thought that countering drones would require non jet powered, slower aircraft. I’m glad I’m not crazy ^^. I believe there are many prop fixed aircraft available, usually trainers; but also privately owned leisure planes. They would need a decent automated gun-sights and weaponry, but we know the Ukrainians are inventive enough to take care of that as well.
In short; small single prop aircrafts, reliably but cheap that can take off and land on a less than ideal runway, small enough to stow away in a barn and with an abundance of easy to buy, cheap parts; easy to fly and quick to master.

Old aircraft, but far from obsolete! 😎
