Sadly not surprising. It might go against the narrative online but police officers get routinely horrible, horrible jobs and that work will damage you at a very deep level, your soul really. For every ‘6 cops to arrest an autistic kid who called someone a lesbian’ you’ll have tens of thousands of officers who are first on scene to a horrific crash and are literally picking bodyparts up from the road, are responding things like the southport atrocity armed with nothing better than a metal stick and some spicy spray or are covering for other agencies shortfalls (pretty much all to do with funding) and being the service that can’t say no.

For that we pay them basically pennies for the risks involved as detailed above, we won’t fund them to be double crewed or appropriately equipped with our tax, and as a result we make them carry vastly more cases than they should be carrying at detriment to victims.
