While I’m 100% behind the idea of a single market to bolster the EU economy (Canada realised they have to perform the same exercise internally to remove trade barriers between the various provinces), I’ll not hold my breath on the timeline.

What single market? Will I be able to open a bank account in my neighboring country?

The idea itself is really compelling – especially considering threats from countries like russia, or the fact that USA is no longer a credible ally.
What I fear tho, is that it will only be profitable for the biggest countries and economies in EU: France and Germany, the rest of countries – Poland, Czechia, Hungary or Baltic states for example, would only loose in this scenario.

Single market in the name only. There are too many exceptions in the EU laws.

One of the co-authors is Enrico Letta, who wrote the report “Much more than a market”, which can be found [here](https://www.consilium.europa.eu/media/ny3j24sm/much-more-than-a-market-report-by-enrico-letta.pdf) (PDF alert). It’s one of 2 main reports that are regarded as unofficial guidelines for EU’s future (the other one being Draghi’s report).
