Excess medication is nomal in every health services, across all drugs categories, especially ones with long lead times.

You estimate what you need, you order slightly more than that because running out of medication is *really fucking bad*, and you expect to have a certain degree of drugs which reach EOL without being used.

That’s not a lot, bit of context with the overall health budget

Nothing else you can do sadly. The immunisation scheme was overall a roaring success and you’d rather have too much than too little.

Meanwhile I’m surrounded by doctors and pharmacies that “don’t do that anymore”.

FFG can eat every single dick.

New thing to get outraged about, if they didn’t have them people would get outraged as well

This is a nonsense article and in the grand scheme of how badly run the HSE is it’s not even a rounding error.

I don’t know if I’ve just gotten older or has the quality of journalism in this country dropped

Medical stuff gets disposed of like this every single day, so do food, chemicals, paint, timber, toys etc etc. One shite stirring headline.

Genuinely completely normal for stuff like this to happen in pharma

Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

My frustration is that a lot of these will be going to waste solely because they aren’t officially available to people who want them.

While in practice you can get one if you want one, on paper you can only get them if you’re in an “at risk” group, so people aren’t seeking them out, and some have reported refusals on this basis.

I would rather have more medication and not need it than have to little and want it

This is fine, pur health service having too much of a vaccine is not a problem. Far worse annual waste going on I’m sure.

I don’t think having bought spare vaccines is really controversial.

Fair enough if it was on something stupid, but vaccines and medicine are important

So what? This is not a big deal and understandable.

At least this year they let everyone 18+ have their Covid vaccine in every pharmacy that offers it so if you haven’t had your booster in a while, it’s a good time to get it.

    17. How is this even an article? This is absolutely normal procedure, just day like any other. But I guess “COVID” still drives some clicks, so they will milk it as long as they can
