Even many smaller cities and towns got bombed and destroyed. Would be interesting to see a complete list.

Wasn’t this just recently posted and criticised for its weird choice of cities and borders? As in, why is Stettin there but not… idk, Breslau, why are the worst-destroyed cities not mentioned etc. pp.
But I guess it serves as a daily reminder to never go full nazi. Our butt-ugly cities themselves would be a sufficient reminder, but I appreciate that as redditors we don’t go outside much.

Southern Germany was in better shape because… I guess the US already knew which part of Germany that they will control when they won the war.

I always though Kiel had seen a lot of destruction. But I didn’t e4xpect it to be in to top 2.

Yeah, you can kinda see that for the soviets soldiers were cheaper than aviation bombs. Even though my great grandfather reached Berlin and he even was photographed on the roof of Reichstag. With a disturbingly patched face, Frankenstein style, since half of it was ripped away by a shell fragment. In hindsight it feels stupid and bitter, towards all parties involved.
On the other hand, germans must be proud of themselves, because they’ve managed to rebuild the country after it was obliterated and then robbed into a global power, third largest economy in the world, leading force in the European Union. Whilst soviets and then Russia, after all reparations and stealing, with an enormous resource base, somehow managed to keep their people in a comparative misery.
