Seems like the kind of thing that ReformUK will pledge to abolish at the next Welsh local government elections.

    2. What is meant by this: [a lobby group](https://cleancitiescampaign.org/campaigners-call-for-higher-parking-charges-for-large-suvs-to-make-cardiffs-streets-safer-for-children/) has [written to the council](https://docs.google.com/document/d/15T-YPbvFH92mx2WHfOG2uM7Od88kSrCqShG4N0CT2jE/edit?tab=t.0) to ask for it and has received “200+” signatures from local residents.

      Nothing more.

Edit: It is not currently part of the [10-year vision for parking,](https://cardiff.moderngov.co.uk/documents/s89475/2025-10-16%20City%20Parking%20Plan%20Appendix%203%20-%20The%20City%20Parking%20Plan.pdf?LLL=0) but presumably this letter is to ask nicely for it to be added. Do people here think it’ll be added? Why or why not?

I hope they checked the weights of electric SUVs before deciding the new limits. EVs weigh a lot (and are often SUVs) because of the batteries.

The problem with a blanket approach like this is it will inevitably capture a lot of people who are trying to do things right, or who need larger vehicles for very good reasons.

The article says this will be based on the weight of a vehicle – many fully electric cars are larger and heavier, namely to help with battery supply, are they going to be exempt?

What about larger families who require a larger vehicle, are we now trying to make city centres expensive to visit or live in for anyone with more than 2 kids? Especially now that most manufacturers have given up on real MPVs and instead just make jacked up hatchbacks and charge 25% more…

What about disabled people? It says blue badge holders will be given priority for parking, but doesnt say anything about exclusions for disabled people who might need a larger vehicle due to wheelchairs or other bulky equipment they need to get around.

I think there needs to be something done about enormous cars. It’s becoming increasingly impossible to park even in my town because people have massive cars and are basically taking up two spaces out of sheer incompetence. Since everything has gone to apps there’s not nearly so many people making sure that people are parking correctly.
