RTE is clearly worth every penny of its 700 million euro yearly budget.

Should be pointed out that Ireland is 7th in the world for press freedom, and was #2 as lately as 2023.
The reason for the fall was Sinn Féin suing journalists in what RSF (not that RSF) called a “chilling effect” on journalism in Ireland.
Even with that, we probably have some of the best news media in the world. People are idiots.

It’s important to point out that while we’re still well above the European average, once this number falls it is very hard to rebuild that trust with people.
I feel this presidential election has done a lot to erode people’s trust in the Irish media even further.

Ireland news media is atrocious
Very establishment with little competition of alternative views…
I can see it being UK levels very soon

Journalism is long since dead. The Irish media pays lip service to the government and is still West brit in its allegences.

I have logged back in to twitter recently for election coverage and it is fucking shocking the way people bang on about media.
Every single section of society appears to believe that their section is uniquely negatively targeted by media. Subject to unfair levels of scrutiny and unreasonably treated while other sectors get preferential treatment.
I realise that the platform is now deaigned to amplify these voices and sow descent but seeing people I have followed for years and know personally falling into the trap is wild.

I think 51% is probably too high, I don’t know anyone who has faith in Irish media.

Just like Russis wants, don’t belive the media, listen to our propaganda on X, Instagram etc for the real truth

I would be curious to know what do people trust and if they actually use main stream media much. Click bait headlines don’t help at all, but mostly the media are as balanced as they’ve always been, for better or worse. What’s changed is consumption habits, rise of alternative sources and the sheer volume and speed at which “news” is pumped out.

As someone who does trust Irish media and also knows that we’re at/near the top of lists globally for press freedom and trust in media, I’m shocked at all of the comments on here disparaging Irish media and its abilities.
Like I know we’re a nation of begrudgers, but cop the feck on, lads. This stuff’s important and apathy only gets the country into fake news territory.

Question is vague. Like I might have 90% faith in the Irish Examiner but 5% in the Irish Daily Mail.
