As a turkish, despite the propaganda of the government, yes it happened. The region I am from (north side), according to my grandfather, Turkish and Armenian people lived peacefully (in contrast to the East side). But, the military man forced Armenian people to leave the city and sell their properties cheaply. Unfortunately, most of them died on the road.
