      >Sir Tony Blair has put himself at odds with Sir Keir Starmer by arguing that boat migrants should not be allowed to claim asylum – the position adopted by Tory leader Kemi Badenoch.
      >
      >The former premier says in a new book that spiralling levels of immigration will not be tackled unless potential arrivals realise there is not a back-door route to British citizenship through refugee law.

Sounds obvious. When we keep slavishly following out of date ‘rules’ which force us to do something obviously against the wishes and interests of the British people, then it is right to ask: if the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?

The guy’s a war criminal. Who cares what he has to say.

You know international asylum law has gone too far when even Blair isn’t happy about the boats

    4. Of course Tony Blair doesn’t respect international law, he lied to the nation to take us to war with Iraq. He should be in the Hague.

“Love your neighbor as yourself,” for they have been cast as sacrificial lambs upon the altar of the UK’s deep and complex structural failings.

It absolutely should be the case. Left wing or right, it’s objectively a broken system. We should take refugees but not from arrivals at the border. It funds horrible gangs, people drown, it encourages dishonesty, and it’s impossible to decipher who is a genuine asylum seeker and who’s a chancer (and as somebody that works in this field I can tell you a large portion are chancers). If it was up to me we’d commit to taking in a certain number of asylum seekers and we would pay for their flight from whatever Warzone or neighbouring country that they are in. Ideally taking people from a refugee camp. Then we can sort by need, we know they are genuine, and they aren’t doing it because they expect asylum, they’re in the refugee camp because they are genuinely desperate. All our laws designed to help refugees are actually just helping migrants with the funds to make risky journeys across the world to take their spots.

This whole topic frustrates me so much because it’s gotten so polarised we are seemingly incapable of having a reasonable discussion about it and also the general public is vastly misinformed about what warzones and asylum routes are actually like. I think that the left would be surprised if they spoke to more people that work in this field about their views on asylum.

I agree that small boat arrivals should not be allowed access to claiming asylum PROVIDED THERE IS A LEGAL WAY FOR THEM TO REQUEST ASYLUM FROM OUTSIDE UK.

They should return to a system where asylum can be applied for at a British embassy/consulate (which was stopped by Blair in 2006). The fact that you have to physically be in the country is nuts as it creates a situation where it’s functionally impossible to claim asylum without illegally crossing. You then have to house them when they are here and it then creates a bunch of knock on legal issues if the asylum case is refused.

Have a clear cut route for people to legally claim asylum without illegally crossing and automatically process and deport those that do cross illegally.

So in short we should return to a system that existed before the person in the article fucked it all up.

    9. Why the fuck has no one addressed the elephant in the room, the entire fucking reason why people arrive in boats in the first place?!

Instead of sobbing about brown people arriving in boats, create a way to apply for asylum without needing to be in the country!

The second you start actually processing people, you can start learning/knowing who is here, who do we want here, who shouldn’t be here, etc.

Our entire system for decades is based on putting our head in the sand and either ignoring a problem, or making a mountain out of a molehill.

At a certain point, it’s just a political hot potato that detracts from the real issues – almost as if this is the plan. No one will focus on the obscene cost of living, poor pay, poor infrastructure, or continued corruption in politics if you can make people feel like their country is under attack…

Blair always was a popularist, banging that drum and taking spin doctors to a new level. His government actively encouraged immigration from outside the EU and failed to follow EU regulations and guidance. Something of a chancer the grinning jackanapes. All the hallmarks of a used car salesman made good.

Blair is a right wing fash, I doubt he was ever truly centre or left.

    12. Blair is a twat.

But the boat migration issue can be resolved simply, as has been suggested many times, but the political backbone to do it is long gone.

Simply allow asylum applications from abroad.

Currently you can only apply for asylum on British soil, remove that restriction and the boat issue is gone.

Why did Kemi wait till in opposition to say this? When her Party was giving out contracts to donors and friends to manage them they didn’t implement any deterrent.
