Note: The United Kingdom and Italy are the only European countries that operate the F35 B variant, as the others lack fixed wing aircraft carriers (France and Spain do, but they have not committed to buying F35s). The actual number of ready jets is lower, some are yet to be delivered. Italy probably has the largest operational fleet as the UK has only had around 40-50 F35s delivered so far, its hard to know the exact number.

Factually the best multirole fighter jet in existence.

Those numbers – at least for the UK – are the number they profess to plan to buy rather than the number actually ordered or delivered. We’ve not even placed an order for more than 48 jets yet, though that will probably come soon. The plan is 60 Bs and 12 As following batch 2 and then some unknown mix afterwards – assuming we ever actually acquire more than 72.

Really though, I’m not totally confident at this stage that we get more than 72 jets. Lead times mean that any we order after batch 2 won’t be delivered until after GCAP is in production

There is not 27 in Denmark.
Do not have them all yet, and 6 are used in USA for training.
16 more has been ordered, so in time there will 37 in Denmark

Do we count those ordered but going to be delivered years from now? Are we sure they will arrive?

What’s the meaning of the different shades of blue? The dark blue (UK, IT) I understand, but the others?

    7. Camelbak99 on

      Netherlands is 58 (37 + 9 + 6 + 6)
      Belgium is 45 (34 + 11)
      Denmark is 43 (27 + 16)

Too many. Europe needs to focus on own fighters such as gcap and fcas.

I think you should add a map legend. You know, explaining the different shades of blue.

It’s not like the F-35 is available at a lot where you just pay at the cashier and the dozens of planes are delivered in a week. It will take ages until all ordered planes have been delivered.
Talking about these numbers is false security.

First F35 for Poland will be delivered in 2026, so we don’t “have” them.

How come Ireland is richer than most of these countries, but we don’t have a military?

    13. valbyshadow on

Denmark will buy another 16 F-35, bringing it up to 43. Currently only 15 has been delivered in Denmark; some are still in US for training.

NEDERLAND! NEDERLAND! NEDERLAND! NEDERLAND! NEDERLAND! NEDERLAND!

I’m not a military guy but I have been following the conflict closely.

Could someone explain to me the purpose of these fighters?
At present Russia doesn’t fly over Ukraine because they release missiles from their own borders.

Using these fighters to shoot down incoming missiles has proven not to be cost effective

I’m all for rearming Europe but we need the right gear, not any gear

    16. Mrstrawberry209 on

Damn, i didn’t realize the Netherlands had so many!

    17. KernunQc7 on

The more important question is how many can we get delivered before the big event starts. I have my doubts that RO will get our F-35s in time.

    18. GregGraffin23 on

Europe should fly European planes. I don’t think that should be controversial. Europe must reliant on itself and not the USA (or anyone else)

Love to see Finland, Poland Romania & Greece with these kind of toys.

A lot of countries just bought F35 to still have nuclear sharing without sharing secrets of other jets they have/develop.

    21. InterestingTank5345 on

I still belive the Swedish jets had been better, especially in the irony of Sweden providing weapons for their arch nemesis.

    22. No_Gur_7422 on

Does this include the dozen new F-35As the RAF is planning for nuclear combat?

    23. Razbojnik666 on

Denmark just recently ordered 16 F35 more, bringing the total up to 43, when delivered.

    24. nous_serons_libre on

It’s scary to see how many European countries have chosen the F35 and have de facto suborned their air forces to the whims of the USA.
