*What is it with the horsey set, they seem to be absolutely cruel to the victims/survivors of jockeys. As to the HSI don’t seem to be for consequences of gender based violence*
Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) has told the Sunday Independent it made the intervention after being contacted by the rider’s solicitor, but was not aware he was facing charges at the time.
Michael Murphy (38), from Barrybeg, Athlone, Co Roscommon, a successful jockey, was convicted last January of defilement of a minor, following an eight-day trial in Castlebar, Co Mayo.
In June, Judge Eileen Creedon sentenced him to two-and-a-half years in prison with six months suspended and placed him on the sex offenders’ register.
The victim of the jockey told the court through her victim-impact statement that she had been groomed by Murphy. It was reported that Murphy’s plan to abuse the girl started in 2017 when she was just 15 and she was bombarded with texts and calls. The Irish Sun reported that on October 8, 2017, Murphy hid in a lane close to her home and entered her bedroom window.
Once inside the property, he had sex with the teenager.
Her victim statement read: “I was led to believe that I would suffer serious consequences should I confide in anyone. My childhood was taken from me far too soon.”
She said her family had faced intimidation, insults and threats after she reported the matter to gardaí.

Wow, an organization that only counts horse deaths if they occur within 48 hours of a race (keeping the number lower) is shady as fuck? Who’d have thunk it.
If you abuse animals you’re probably shit to humans too. Just sayin.

Listen to the BBC podcast, “Assume nothing. Murder At The Stables.” About the Katie Simpson murder by Jonathan Creswell. Tells you everything you need to know about the equestrian world. Absolutely shocking case.
