Average HOUSE HOLD income of 34k, average rent of £1300 and average personal debt of 17k (cards, loans and car payments.
Good example is the difference between household income from 2010 to current and cars. The house hold income has increased 30% but the difference between car prices then and now is 60%.
Best one being house price of course, average in 2010 being £160k and now being just under 300k with an I crease of 78.8%
Average gas and electricity bill has doubled or more so. Monthly mortgage has over doubled for the same house, rent has over doubled.
So large expenses up 50%+ niiiiiice

I honestly wonder how much debt has been used to pacify people? Would people be a lot less tolerant of the billionaire class if debt/credit wasn’t so easily available?
Let them buy stuff on credit to make them think their standard of living is perfectly fine otherwise they might start listening to those darned commies and socialists?

Stagnant wages for the majority while those at the top have made bank will do that.
If Labour et al want to head of Poundland MAGA, they need to address that.

Finally paid off my car 8 months early and am now putting that extra into the mortgage. I wish to god we were mortgage free already as my work is getting pretty hostile towards my disability arrangements so would be good to at least be free of it. But that’s modern life I guess. Plus the job market in UK is in the toilet too

Housing has to be killed as an investment vehicle. Itºs really on the same curve as healthcare but for some reason, we seem more comfortable with predatory housing.
This needs a whole of Govt strategy where the goal is to bring housing to 25% of take home across the country. This will link multiple inputs and tools and account for regional variations into a single target.
Wish the govt was as focused on this as they seem to be on forcing the police to allow football hooligans in.

Just wait until Gen X get to retirement age with no savings, only a state pension and kids that can’t afford to look after them. That’s me by the way. I’ll be booking a short ferry crossing and giving myself a burial at sea.
