FG were blindsided by the withdrawal of McGuinness, who would have walked this election. They were left scrambling to get a candidate.
FF shot themselves in their foot picking Jim. Really poor decision by their leader.
If Jim had not have pulled out, then himself and Connolly would have been arguing away to each other, like in the first debate, while Heather would have been seen as a more reasonable candidate. Bland, but safe. When Jim dropped, Heather didn’t have a whole lot to say, and Catherine was a clear favourite.

We should probably refresh our understanding of the rules of impeachment of presidents as set out in our constitution
Connolly has some people who like her and some who hate her but she does have genuine supporters whereas even for FG/ FF people, at best they can say Humphreys is better than the alternative, not really that she would make a great president
There is nothing about Heather Humphreys as a person, she just comes across as bland, middle of the road and would be more than out of her depth representing Ireland internationally.
I keep thinking you’re going from the erudite, culturally rich, well traveled, switched on Michael D Higggins to these candidates. Who have less charisma put together than Higgins has in his finger tips.
Such a bad offering but Heather Humphreys is absolutely out of her depth and would be, having to be front and center as a figure head.

Maybe, when the dust settles and the parties backing Catherine Connolly have time to reflect, they’ll see that there isn’t much difference between them. Connolly is pretty much nailed onto to win. Form a coalition of the left/centre left and challenge FFG in the next general election. Put single coalition candidates in tight constituencies to maximise seats and maybe even finally push FFG out of power. It will take something of that magnitude to shift FFG from power.
FG and the MSM have made it abundantly clear they’re nothing more than self-interested hypocritical mudslingers in cahoots with each other. They made Connolly into a shoe-in by just being themselves. My only hope at this stage is that the electorate remembers all of this at the next general election.

She hasn’t resorted to smearing her opponent, which seems to be the only way Humphreys thinks she can win.
I hope all the CC supporters on here and irl know what they’re getting in for by electing a Russian apologiser as president.
