Does redacting the faith really help here lmao

Perhaps I’m being thick as hell today but I don’t quite see the issue unless he singled out any pupil or group without merit? Pointing out that FGM tends to happen in only some cultures doesn’t necessarily make it hateful or insensitive.

>Four statements from pupils reported Mr Lloyd sarcastically referring to a redacted faith as a “religion of peace” with a thumbs up. He then told another pupil “so you’re all not so bad after all” after they said “we don’t believe in killing anyone in the religion”. He then told that student he was not sorry if he had offended them as he went on to tell the class he would happily commit murder if anyone had hurt his daughter.
Believing honour killings are barbaric doesn’t give a teacher the right to talk to students like an edgelord on twitter. Especially when the students weren’t even arguing against him in the first place.

Well, he scared his pupils, ranted about religion, told them that he’d kill someone if they hurt his daughter, and lied about female genital mutilation.
He seems a bit unhinged for a teacher.

I know of academics in their lectures who refer to “old, white men” and openly disclose their support for the Greens.
There seems to be a general culture of politicising the classroom and fostering in-group – out-group dynamics, which is concerning, regardless of political orientation.

These statements are too controversial and confrontational for an academy classroom (especially as he seems to have been singling out students of said faith), even if you agree with and believe the statements themselves are factual.

FGm is primarily an African practice that happens in both Christian and Muslim countries there.

This same teacher would have had to recently do a refresher course on FGM, as all staff in schools do every year.
I get the feeling he’s one of those people who skipped the video to the end and didn’t actually watch it.

Intetesting, back in my day we had no lessons on killing, much less an honours one.

Personally think religious education should be put away and replaced with politics. History of religion can be taught in history class. History is where religion belongs and should be left. All of them.

Why is a science teacher, teaching about honour killings and religion? He’s got no formal education in it, he’s not qualified to deliver the content and as evidenced he just spouted ignorant opinions.
