I wish I was getting a 4.8% pay rise from work as standard.

Pensions beat wages when inflation was higher.

Pensions beat inflation when wages in higher.

Pensioners racked up record government debt with low taxes pre 2020s, making themselves the wealthiest generation ever.

      Still it is not enough.

      This is not sustainable.

Working people are being crushed to pay for pensioners.

It’s time to scrap the triple lock.

I work for a certain bank that rhymes with Gloyds Lanking Broup. Our pay review for 2026/27 is paltry (below inflation), across all bands (pleb bands, I’m sure Exec bonuses will be ridiculous again), so this is a real kick in the teeth.

I have a theory that the BoE will be advising big employers to limit payrises for next year to try and get on top of inflation, which is great, apart from seeing that the pensioners are getting payrises bigger than the working population. Many of them still more than capable of working too.

A policy where pensions are guaranteed to be an ever increasing percent of GDP is insane. This needs to be scrapped.

Why does the entire political class of this country do nothing but twerk for pensioners

We are teetering on the brink of the state pension exceeding the income tax threshold, which will be very interesting when it inevitably happens

Pensioners will then turn around and say that immigrants and the poor are why the country is going bankrupt

Got to keep biggest voting block happy, even if they majority won’t vote for you anyways.

Boomers are ruining the economy with their endless greed.

People have been screaming for months that pensions should be linked to wage growth. Now that’s the case, they’re still unhappy.

    14. wkavinsky on

      This is some bullshit.

I only dream of getting 5% a year pay rises.

    15. Let’s not forget most homes pensioners are living in are now worth x3 as much.

    16. jollygoodvelo on

Sounds good to me. Where do I get one of these “pensioner” jobs, is there a course I can go on?

What do you mean they’re only open to old people, that’s outrageous age discrimination.

    17. plawwell on

Everybody paying pension credits will benefit from these rises when they retire.

4.8% pay rise to sit at home all day reading Reform UK propaganda.

The UK. The perfect place to live unless you have a job.

    20. volodymyroquai on

i know it’s bad but it just makes me hate pensioners tbh

    21. The triple lock clearly isnt fit for purpose at this point….. I do think that there are certain pensioners that will need this extra money but we need to look at means testing this. Not every pensioner is wealthy and owns their own home so I’ve got no issue with those people getting what they need to live.

It won’t happen as it’s political suicide to touch the triple lock so it will get to the point of implosion before anything is done about it.

    22. somnamna2516 on

are we all looking forward to reeves’s tax raises in a month’s time?

We are so completely and utterly fucked as a country, and also as millenials.

People upset by this but when the government tried to get rid of the winter fuel payment the whole country was livid.
