Now with an autotranslated headline.
Its about the civilian workers in the US bases.
For me its even hard to understand the shutdown thing. It should not be allowed that a government is not paying their workers, at home or overseas.
For those who don’t know: Apparently this is for Germans locally employed by U.S. forces on German soil aka cleaners, mechanics, clerks, cooks, etc. They’re not U.S. military personnel. They’re apparently hired under German labour law, paid from U.S. defense funds, and covered by a special collective agreement called the Bundesfinanzministerium (Finance Ministry) signs with German unions. It can be MISLEADING for non Germans who don’t know what Zivilbeschäftigte means in this context
Again, this is embarrassing beyond belief for the “world’s richest country”. Doesn’t exactly disprove the “third world country with a Gucci belt” stereotype.
At least in the past, US government employees abroad continued to get paid during the many “shutdowns”. But the current administration doesn’t seem to care about the terrible look – what’s new…
Schau mich an, we are ze federal government now!
Sure, why not pay someone elses employees with tax payer money. Recently cut into social welfare, might as well use the savings on this.
