*You have to feel for him and the Murphy family. But I’m not sure anything will change regardless of who wins the presidential election.*

Ryan Casey, partner of murdered schoolteacher Ashling Murphy, has hit out at what he calls Ireland’s “spineless, weak and tolerable” justice system.

Five relatives of her killer, Jozef Puska, were jailed for helping cover up the murder — burning his blood-stained clothes and lying to Gardaí. They received sentences ranging from 20 months to 2½ years, despite the serious nature of their actions.

Casey said the outcome left him “utterly disgusted,” calling for a complete overhaul of sentencing laws and tougher punishments for those who aid killers. He also questioned why such offenders can’t be deported immediately after serving time.

He accused the Puska family of showing zero remorse and supporting the killer in court, and criticised political leaders for failing to deliver on promises to protect women after Ashling’s murder.

“The Irish justice system has failed yet another victim and another family.”

He’s urging people to use their vote in the upcoming Presidential election to show their anger and demand real change.

Fair play to him. The sentences were a joke. I just hope the family have a hard time in prison.

I’m sorry but these sentences actually reflect the crimes.

This guy is trying to make a platform for himself, what happened to Ashling Murphy was one of the most horrendous acts of violence I’ve ever seen in this country but it doesn’t of mean he is forever beyond reproach. He’s just another person and one with some concerning utterances at this point.

When they finish their prison sentences they should be go back to Slovakia where hence they came. They do not deserve to be supported and housed at the expense of the the Irish Taxpayers Purse.

Our justice system is based on rehabilitation, not revenge. Reputable journalists shouldn’t be putting a metaphorical microphone in front of a young man who is clearly still very angry and bitter. He’s swinging from the Department of Justice, to the courts, to immigration, to the Presidential election. I feel for him, and I’d be just the same or worse, but it’s just undirected anger spilling over.

And nomatter his protestations to the contrary, it’s just more fuel to the fire that brought hundreds of little shits to the City West to bash Gardaí, threaten asylum seekers, and burn vans.
