Butterflies, leopards, and crocodiles — in the final years of her life, self-taught naïve artist **Polina Raiko** covered every surface of her home in Oleshky, southern Ukraine, with her vibrant paintings.
Her creations endured for nearly two decades after her death, until 2023, when Russia destroyed the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. The resulting flood submerged her house and erased this extraordinary art.
Fortunately, Ukrainer captured these remarkable frescoes on film in 2020, thanks to artist Viacheslav Mashnytskyi, who later went missing during the Russian occupation of Kherson.

Thank God somebody cared enough to document everything. What amazing artwork and Russia simply destroyed it. Because that is all they know how to do.
