I’m wondering what is the long term goal of that. They are already unable to fly as many combat missions as they would need/want, because of strained logistics for delivering fuel.

They don’t have fuel pipeline that delivers fuel to military bases (like Germany does) so they are limited by how many trucks can deliver fuel to bases.

F-16 burns 60 liters per 1 minute of flight, 485 liters per 1 minut of flight if afterburner is used. One sortie usually lasts 1-3h in case of Ukraine, because they don’t have capability to refuel in the air. One tanker truck can fit 30 000 – 60 000 liters (depending on size), but these big ones can be only used if there’s road access all the way to military base. If road is destroyed then military tanker trucks have to be used, because these allow for off road transportation too, but these have much smaller capacity (usually 7 000 – 25 000). So even in best case scenario biggest truck only lasts for maybe 4-5 sorties if we talk about really short ones.

I’m wondering how they plan to resolve this bottleneck if they are aiming to increase size of their air fleet.

This is such great news. Gets Ukraine jets in the short to mid term. Extends out the lineup of orders for SAAB which could allow for additional investment, or at least decreasing cost to produce per unit. It strengthens European manufacturing and is another small step for Europe not having to rely on US arms manufacturers.
