    >Belgians who are currently not working and not claiming benefits would naturally see the greatest gains. But even **those already receiving unemployment benefits would see an average of over €928 net per month in their bank accounts. For those receiving social assistance, that figure is €838.**
“I’d like to note that **these amounts are the most conservative estimate,** as we’ve used the minimum wage,” PhD researcher Elise Aerts explained to VRT NWS. “Of course, we know that many employees earn more than the minimum wage. If we were to use a slightly higher wage, the picture would look even rosier.”

Alles inzake gezondheidszorg (tandarts, huisarts, kine,…) is goedkoper/quasi gratis.

It seems I double posted the same article. So I’ll delete my post and move to this thread.

    Main numbers:

    * Of the non-working people in Belgium, 94.5 percent would currently benefit by at least 500 euros net per month by working full-time, even if this is a job for the minimum wage of around 2,070 euros.
    * Belgians who are currently not working and not claiming benefits would obviously see the greatest gains. But even those already receiving unemployment benefits would see an average extra of over €928 net per month. For those receiving social assistance, that figure is €838.
    * The small group that wouldn’t profit from taking a minimum-wage job, are mainly single parents.
    * The different ‘job bonus’ systems that currently exist, seem to be an important factor in already achieving a relatively big difference between working and not working. Downside of those is that raises from a low to a slightly higher salary are partially cancelled out by the loss of this job bonus.

All in all, it seems to be that the claim that the financial difference between working and not working is too small, is largely untrue. Even though some political parties tend to stress this, and changing this perceived problem is one of the main goals of the current government.

On the other hand, if the financial difference between working and not working is quite big in reality, one should probably focus on other factors that can be drivers of unemployment… How to combine taking care of a family with working? What are the mismatches between the expectations of potential employers and people who are currently unemployed? etc.
