The UK signed an £8 billion ($10.7 billion) deal to sell 20 Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey,
For context
> After Washington booted Ankara out of its F-35 fighter programme in 2019 over its purchase of an S-400 Russian surface-to-air missile defence system, Turkey turned its attention to Europe.

In my view, it is preferable for Turkey to buy from NATO countries than from Russia.
Fantastic news for the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany. I imagine Turkey will also be getting more from Qatar also, and upgrades over the coming years.
With the Eurofighter line frozen at the moment, this should make sure that BAE in the UK transitions nicely into the GCAP without losing talent and engineers.
Another bonus is BAE has spent the last decade helping Turkey build the KAAN. That knowledge and experience will be invaluable now that GCAP is moving along nicely.
What with BAE building a 1/5th of the F35, helping with KAAN, Tanaris and Nightjar, I imagine Europe’s premier 6th Gen plane will be produced with far fewer hiccups.
So thanks to Turkey for the purchase of the Eurofighter and the experience BAE gained from KAAN in the last 10 years.
The deal includes;
– 20 newly built Tranche 4
– 12 Tranche 3A from Qatar
– 12 Tranche 3 from Oman
The price seems reasonable for all the new equipment, training and other stuff.
Thank you UK! Love from Greece.
Turkey will use second hand jets for training purposes for jet pilots and maintenance crew
Newly built ones are just there to buy time for Turkish Air Force until KAAN becomes operational
Interesting tidbit – these would be Eurofighter Tranche 4, which would be more modern than any UK Eurofighters, as their most modern ones are Tranche 3A without new orders.
So Europe is just fully helping Turkey in its bombing campaign of civilians in northern syria now, and none of the countries involved have any reservations about that? Got it.
Great for Grèce! Well, no, actually. We’ll all keep our fingers crossed that Rafales and Eurofighters don’t clash now
More than a billion goes for Meteor missilles.
Disgusting. EU solidarity as always, amirite? Expected nothing less from the English, tbh, two faced as always.
Give more weapons system to one of the premier threats to two EU members, what can go wrong i wonder?
So 20 new builds, plus Meteor, Brimstone and ASRAAM. Presumably the Mk2 AESA radar as well…although the ones they get from Qatar and Oman will have the Mk0 version. Nothing second hand from the UK, I don’t suppose that’s a surprise.
I wonder now what will happen for Qatar and Oman; will they backfill with further Typhoon orders? Or will they just reduce their fleets? Or select a different jet instead
