What?? Oh Nooo! There will be dozens of people upset by this! Dozens!

They said if we don’t like it don’t watch it, and now we didn’t watch it the entire thing is collapsing, so we have to read articles about that for the next year with the same self-assured “EVERYTHING IS FINE” tone.

Just get a new showrunner already.

Honestly felt like Capaldi’s era was the beginning of decline, and gave up during the first season of Whitaker’s. Haven’t seen what came after.

It’s a shame, because they’re both good actors in their own right, but something about the writing just felt off. It just felt less inspired, less like doctor who’s weird concepts. Even the highlights of the Capaldi era like Missy were hold-overs from previous seasons.

Putting everything else aside; having to wait for more than 18 months and then to only get *one* episode, with no confirmation of when there might be more after that, is the sort of thing that will kill the franchise in the long-run.

Doctor Who is supposed to be a family show, which includes cultivating children as the next generation of fans. The kids were *already* abandoning it, because it’s seen as an old show (don’t forget; it’s been 20 years since it was first revived), and they will need new stories a hell of a lot more regularly if they’re going to stay passionate about it. Otherwise, they’ll simply move onto something else to obsess about.

It’s not like the show was doing well at retaining the older audiences either, who are generally more used to long waits (particularly given that the streaming model seems to lead to multi-year waits for *everything* nowadays).

And it really feels to me like they’re doing a Christmas 2026 episode so that they can say that it’s been on-air in every calendar year, while they endlessly debate what the hell they’re going to do in the long-term.

They should have probably tried making it less shit, but what do I know.

The show as it is has an entry barrier far too high for new fans and the long run of poor quality has pushed away too many of the fans they did have.

They need to treat whatever this special is as a finale for the “NuWho” era, one last license to lean on fan service and nostalgia and bring back the Tennant’s, Piper’s and whoever else to finally close the book.

Let it rest for a couple of years then allow some fresh blood to start with a completely fresh slate.

The last season was actually pretty good with some great episodes and Ncuti Gatwa was excellent. However the fumbled the finale so bad and the Billie Piper inclusion was clearly last minute desperation after Gatwa unexpectedly quit.

Really should’ve ended with Capaldi’s last. Basically the perfect send-off

In news that should surprise absolutely no one at this point. Show’s been circling the drain for years now. Let it die with whatever remains of its dignity.

Maybe in another couple of decades it can regenerate again, hopefully having learned some lessons along the way about what kills franchises.

I dropped off around the Capaldi era, Smith era was okay but I grew up with Tennant and he was The Doctor for me.

But whenever I check in on the series it just looked and sounded very meh, nobody was raving about it, barely gets mentioned unless it’s some ‘woke’ hate article.

It’s sad but it’s been dying for a while.

I thought the specials they did with Tennant were great, but lacklustre finales killed the energy of the two seasons that followed, even if there were some good episodes here and there. Was a surprise because setting up for big end of season stuff felt like RTD’s bread and butter the first time around. The narrative needs grounding again, the way that the 9th and 11th Doctor’s first seasons both felt like easy entrance points for someone unfamiliar with the show.

I don’t like that the BBC is so underfunded they’re having to resort to working with American giants like HBO and Disney to make anything that needs any budget at all, but it’s sad that Dr Who’s lifeline has failed all the same :/

This series was the first interesting one in a while, even if it didn’t connect with enough people (and was a very different style).

I think the Doctor needs some cryosleep for a few years until Who can be brought back under new management. The storylines are derivative, the acting mawkish and the political messaging heavy handed in the extreme.
