Somebody tell the tenant they can seek a rent repayment order.

      Boom, she’s delivered free housing…

    2. Leftleaningdadbod on

Oh the schadenfreude of the Tories, as represented by the Daily Pustule. One can see their fat bottoms wriggling with unsympathetic joy at this one.

    3. Minimum_Definition75 on

      That’s so funny.

I wonder what penalty she will get. In theory she can get a large fine, criminal record, rent repayment order and be listed as a rogue landlord on the database. And banned from renting out again.

    4. OkPea5819 on

Where were these investigations by the same press when the conservatives were in power?

    5. Jaded_Strain_3753 on

This is kind of a non issue in practice but it does project a sense of incompetence. I’ve never understood how high profile politicians mess these things up, they must know the media will be sniffing around

    6. UniquesNotUseful on

      >A spokeswoman for Ms Reeves said: ‘Since becoming Chancellor Rachel Reeves has rented out her family home through a lettings agency.

I understand she’s legally responsible but surely this is the responsibility of the estate agent.

Note: I also thought Angela Rayner was a non-issue before her statements started to unravel, so will add unless she lied about having the licence.

    7. Desperate_Caramel_10 on

Nice of Kemi – I hacked Harriet Harman’s website – Badenoch to weigh in on it.

      Glad Reeves sorted the license.

I have literally never heard of it and would consider myself a pretty informed person but then only 50 councils out of 350 do it and a lot of them only in specific areas. Widespread maybe but not that widespread.

    9. Wide_Tune_8106 on

This is anti landchad discrimination. No but seriously will this lead her to resign like it did with Rayner?

    10. 5StarMan94 on

Either gone by the end of the week or kept until the new year to absorb the budget negativity

    11. Nutellover on

This is deliberate. After Rayner went Reeves won’t be able to stay now this has come out, and oh look, were about to have her budget revealed most likely upping income tax and lowering the higher rate tax thresholds because those earning over £45k aren’t actually workers. Who takes the wrap? Noone! All well hear from the new chancellor will be “my predecessor did this not me”. These people’s jobs aren’t meant to be permanent and they come and go simply to move the party forward and line their own pockets.

    12. mintymiles on

They’re like pigs at the trough.

Angela with her stamp duty, Reeves the dodgy landlord and Keir with more freebies in the past 5 years than any other MP.

Completely self-serving, and only in politics for the pointless pursuit of power – with no grand vision or love for the country, only love for oneself.

I feel completely apoplectic that people can be so greedy and selfish. We need a radical change in this country, to remove the deep establishment rot, that has spread across our political, journalistic and financial elite.

    13. PartyPoison98 on

Yawn. She fucked up but in a very minor, bland, legalistic way and is seemingly taking the proper steps to rectify it.

The press at large cares far more about these boring procedural Labour “scandals”, than it ever did about the debauchery of the Tory government’s.

    14. tigerjed on

      Is this?

      A) she really is at best very naive.
      B) A political assassination master class from a rival.
      C) She’s realised the budget next month is unworkable and this is someway for her to get out of the role beforehand.

    15. No-Signature8815 on

I came rushing here to see the response,I might be overreaacting, but this is almost like seeing a political carcass infront of you,and you’re just frozen. If this is true, what happens? My mind is running with possibilities, and none of them are good for this country.

There’s a budget coming up soon, there’s a lot of talk as to whether or not it’ll go agaisnt Labour’s manifesto, the government has been turned on it’s head.

Also, maybe landlords shouldn’t be able to be MPs? Just a thought.

    16. Pen_dragons_pizza on

I think at this point that it’s just painfully clear that the government knowingly find loop holes or withhold information to benefit themselves.

It’s so so bloody sad that we cannot seem to trust a single person when us normal people need to jump through so many hoops in fear or being fined or arrested for such small things.

    17. Scary-Spinach1955 on

      Optics Rachel, optics.

You may have wanted to wait a little before doing this, when you are going to fuck us in the ass next month.

    18. andytimms67 on

Hmmm interesting, I am starting to see a pattern here… 😂

    19. Impressive-Bird-6085 on

      This looks really bad.

It does bed the question though… where were The Daily Mail reports about serious rule breaking by Conservative Ministers in the 14 years of the previous Conservative governments?? Did serious rule breaking take place that occurred, but has not been reported?? If so, to what extent??

    20. urbanspaceman85 on

Boris Johnson should literally be in prison yet this is what the Daily Fail are going after. Shameless.

    21. Manoj109 on

I have a selective licence due for renewal in January in the borough of Waltham Forest. Even though, an agency manages the property on my behalf I am mindful of the renewal date and keeping an eye on it so it doesn’t expire .

She is a landlord, she should be responsible, and it’s her duty to make sure the agency is delivering.

    22. 369_Clive on

This is a local council rule she’s broken. Most local authorities don’t require homeowners to apply for a a “licence” to rent out a house. Mountains out of molehills.

    23. Disillusioned_Pleb01 on

For a boring party that doesn’t know what it stands for, is this the best the clueless opposing has??

    24. oglop121 on

Let’s make the rules so confusing that even the people running the country don’t understand them

    25. BourbonSn4ke on

Jesus christ why can’t politicians just follow the rules?

    26. Falconuk99 on

She left it to the agent… OK ! So she didnt know where she brought and was renting the house?

Not like going out a for a pint of milk and bread, when you have or buy or let a property: you know exactly what duck is going on!
