It was an insane decision to take over Nexperia. I mean, did the Dutch govt not even know that essential steps in production took place in China? Apparently it was instigated by US threats over Chinese ownership which they subsequently backed down on (TACO as always) and now China has a perfect excuse to disrupt European car production and advance their own market share here.

Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if China drags on a resolution on this issue. They’ve taken most of tech and knowhow a long time ago no doubt. They benefit from disruption to European manufacturing. And they have huge leverage when Europe has to go to Beijing to negotiate a a deal. Between this and the back on JLR in the UK (due to outsourcing cyber security to India) we have no sovereignty in manufacturing anymore.

Also why we should stop blindly following US instructions. Here the US instructed the Dutch govt to make this move, then Trump TACO’d as always after meeting Xi, and European manufacturing is left holding the bag.

A 95hp Polo with the most basic configuration is 21.000€. This model, after 5 years you would be lucky to sell it for 7000€. This is deserved, not something that happened randomly. Also, true for most of european car producers.
I still remember the 2010-2018 period, they spent billions on those proprietary and idiotic navigation systems when everybody was using their phone, even in the cars equipped with a proprietary solution.

If Western car manufacturers don’t get these chips within the coming months, Chinese EV’s might be the only option to buy

I was assured by posters in this sub that the Nexperia takeover was fine and even needed for the EU.  That with EU technical knowledge the EU would come out stronger.
