About a thousand civilians remain in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. Evacuating people from there is nearly impossible: the city lies in ruins, and where residential neighborhoods once stood, only the wreckage of high-rise buildings remain — with the bodies of those killed in Russian shelling still inside. Just a few months ago, the residents of Pokrovsk could not have imagined that their city would face such a fate.

But the reality has surpassed even the worst expectations, says *Frontliner* reporter Alina Yevych. The journalist had lived in Pokrovsk since March 2022 and saw with her own eyes how Russian forces began to destroy the city.
