It was public knowledge that Mandelson was boys with Epstein right? What difference does briefing make if it’s on, like, Wikipedia?
I thought the whole point was to have someone nonce-adjacent on the inside they thought they could trust.
Everyone knew about his links to Epstein. What wasn’t known was how chummy they were outside the business dealings
His links to Epstein are what made him perfect for the job.
I don’t think much of Keir but there is a lot of hypocrisy in this thread.
A few weeks before this all resurfaced, half of reddit was telling me the US trade “deal” was the greatest achievement in world history. That was a Mandelson deal whether people like it or not.
And most people would agree that national interest outweighs matters of taste.
But now it’s worked, people want to argue against it or pretend the “devil” part of the deal with the devil wasn’t actually what they supported. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Well you can’t.
Starmer (who should have just said no comment or that the ambassador had his full confidence) is now running for cover and denying everything. But it’s hard to jump on the bandwagon when it was travelling in the opposite direction so recently…
