However, gross voted expenditure, the biggest source of spending, surged 7.7 per cent to €87.1 billion. Total expenditure came to €100.3 billion for the first 10 months.

The overreliance of successive governments on unsustainably high corporation taxes from multinationals based in Ireland was underscored in a Department of Finance report published on Tuesday.

It said that a fall-off in such receipts could lead to a decline in exchequer revenue over the next four decades, relative to the size of the economy.

The days of surpluses are over I guess. But the demands for vastly increased spending and borrowing billions more from Wall Street will continue.

Surely there is spending of the Apple money that was voted because we had it. Feels like it would be more prudent to strip both out? Unless I’m missing something

If the economy enters a proper downturn, I genuinely fear how nasty things could get in respect of immigration and asylum seekers being used as a political scapegoat by FFG and others.

That goes double when hard decisions are going to have to be made to plug financial gaps and make cuts to different areas.

It will make them prime and easy targets, unfortunately.

Let’s hope a downturn isn’t coming anytime soon.

    6. It’s not a ‘boost’, it’s legally applied taxation policy lmfao

Note that this deficit includes €6bn transferred to two of the sovereign wealth funds this year.
