Fair play to you, thats some slog.
Determination is the key to success.
Best of luck👍
Is it ironic or heroic that he’s studying planning & sustainable development? There’s nothing like living the problem to help find solutions.
Extreme commuting is on the rise in a lot of countries. There’s a saying: ‘drive until you can afford it’. In Dublin, and now Cork and other places, rents have gone crazy, so people are living in cars/vans or commuting further. Tax the billionaires. Tax the vulture funds.
Did I just repeat myself?
*Disclaimer : I know the issue isn’t that simple, but taxing wealthy land owners to benefit poorer people would help.
Lads be carpooling from Tattooine to Dublin these days.
My commute was 2-2.5 hours each way to college that in itself was managable but when paired with being active in sports and trying to have some level of student life it drained the batteries quickly. I think every aspect of my life suffered a little bit becuase of it. Often found myself collapsing the moment i got on the bus and missing my stops
Imagine getting all the way there for the lecturer not to show up
He most likely studies while on the train so it’s not lost time
The woman in the article who has a house and family in Clare, a job in Dublin and a 5 and a half hour round trip every time she goes to work. I would do that for like one week and then quit that job. I’ve no idea how people could tolerate that kind of thing. It’s like having two jobs, one which costs you time and money.
Governments response: Increase tax on commuters traveling more than 100km one way to encourage people to live closer to their place of work.
Thats just not gonna be sustainable physically or mentally
Does the guy from Chapelizod’s legs just not work? I do that everyday on top of 2-4 hours on a bus.
Hopefully not for much longer tbf. It’s fucking soul destroying. Mental health has been in the toilet on multiple occasions.
Mental how we could solve most transport problems overnight by encouraging companies to use work from home more.
