Its shit like this that makes me an abolitionist. What good does destroying the kids life (which this will assuredly do) when he’s already got the death of his friend on him. It’s not gonna bring the dead kid back.

I’m not saying *nothing* – a lifetime ban is the bare minimum for this; he’s not to be trusted with a car, and has made that perfectly clear. We also hold the family is due some form of compensation, it won’t fill the gap of their son but it is the best we can do.

I don’t see what prison does apart from being more harm into the world. Will it really deter more young idiots? I don’t really think so. It’s not like confining him will prevent any harm the way you can argue with others.

If you really want him to suffer in order to scare others then *maybe* that payment for the next 50 years will add some weight to his mind.

How it shakes out now he’s gonna be locked up for ~2.5 years. Probably less really and then be spat back in the world with a conviction and a hole in his CV and education that lets be honest the pubic purse is going to end up paying for one way or the other. And then the family will have to drag everyone through the courts *again* to try and get recompence.
