They should but they won’t, despite facing the same resignment to the dustbin the Tories find themselves in.

I think a strong constituency link is important so I support first past the post as candidates are directly a representative of the voting constituency.
The system also gives a lot of stability.
In the decades using Proportional Representation for EU elections i cannot recall a single name of my MEP for my constituency area as they was faceless people dropped in.
I do support AV or AV+ (limited PR MPs – maybe 20, selected from party lists) to improve enfranchisement into the electoral process and to show that every vote can matter.

If Labour is polling under 20% it’s in their interest to introduce PR. Lots of models are saying labour is expected to get below 100 seats, but in a PR model they can get 130 seats. Plus, LD + Labour + Greens tend to get over 50%, so a traffic light coalition is certainly plausible.

This is perfect as if Labour really believed Reform will destroy the country they would go to PR without a moments hesitation. They won’t and will go into the next election and get decimated

I am in very in favour of PR
I am not in favour of a ruling party changing the election rules simply because it’s in their favour to do so.

Labour had best support PR. it’s their only realistic prospect of preventing a large Reform UK majority at this point.
