Morning fog and the smell of gunpowder mark the start of a day for fighters of the Khartiia brigade. Here they are not taught only to fire a weapon, but to survive.
Under the guidance of experienced combat veterans with call signs like “Kosmos” and “Guba,” troops drill aiming, coordination and weapons handling, working with everything from the Ukrainian-manufactured UAR-15 assault rifle and Soviet-made AKM guns.
Rotations are infrequent, drones have begun to substitute for some supply lines, and the motivation is simple and constant: to come home alive.

When Europeans and Americans shout in unison that Ukrainians are not protecting them, I remember these Ukrainian guys. And I also remember how drones flew into Poland, and Ukrainian defenders shot them down. Why are people who call themselves civilized so deaf and blind?
