If only the UK had access to plentiful supplies of highly compressed fossilised plant matter, that could be extracted and then burnt to provide cheap energy.

Yup. Now we have the coal plants gone, the next one to close is this. Followed by the gas plants b
The whole Drax renewable model is a sham, but they are gaming the system and making large amounts of money from doing so.
Given that this has been going on for years why hasn’t the system that they have to follow been changed?
Logs are still renewable, and it is still better than coal.
