Honestly isn’t worth fighting for if you’re just a regular working class person. The BBC is stuffed to the brim with posh property-owning, middle class London snobs who do not understand or really care about the issues that normal hardworking taxpayers face.

    3. LargePlums on

The bbc is held to such insanely higher standards than every other media organisation. Understandably. Sometimes, rightly so.

But look to who its detractors are and what they have to gain from silencing a part of the establishment asks questions of the establishment.

      ITT: Bots. šŸ˜‚

It’s worth remembering that this ā€œcrisisā€ is because of a poor edit of a man who routinely posts misrepresenting edits of his political opponents, and he wants the BBC to be torn down so that we all watch GB News instead … a wholly politically partisan organisation.

If you genuinely think the BBC isn’t worth fighting for you’re a fool.

    5. hitanthrope on

I was going to say, ā€œwasā€, but I’m not sure. Felt like it was worth fighting for until you know that significant parts of it were a child abuse ring.

      Let’s see….

ā€œThe *idea* of the BBC was worth fighting for… maybeā€

      That’s my headline.

I used to love watching their science & history documentaries, but I can’t bear new perspectives on history from a contemporary social justice lens.

Does anyone know of any good sites to stream older BBC content?

    7. Spamgrenade on

Worth noting that out of all upheld complaints about misleading stories it’s the Telegraph, Mail and Sun that top the lists.

I love the BBC, and they make some of the best programming in the world. However, the BBC News department needs their wings clipping, it’s been getting worse and worse for years

Demanding it returns to unbiased reporting IS defending it

Just no the only way it survives is strong leadership and truthful news the times are a changing

No its not. Its an organisation of nonces and nonce protectors.

I put this on another post that got deleted:

The Beeb has fucked up massively. Not an impartial outlet by any means, but still 1000x more decent than the Murdoch Empire.Ā

They really have played into Trumps hands.

As much as I loathe to say it, I do hope they can salvage themselves from this and end up not being liable / can afford a settlement if they are.

Otherwise, UK journalism really will go in the gutter, and full blown fake news fascism will take its place from the sewer; that drain is already full and ready to overflow.

    13. Extra-Fig-7425 on

GB news and NF can say whatever they want and gets passes, while BBC made one error (and is not even that bad) and hell break loose.

    14. TheOriginalGuru on

The problem I have with a lot of news agencies today (not just the BBC, but others) is that they’re more interested in doing opinion pieces as opposed to straight up reporting the factual news.

I don’t really have a lot of sympathy for them.

    15. BlackCoffeeWithPie on

Naw, in its current form, it really isn’t. Burn it to the ground.Ā

    16. Calelith on

Whilst I have my issues with the BBC we shouldn’t be bending the knee to a guy who is basically Jimmy Saville with fake tan and dementia.

    17. One-Cod-5049 on

I think an independent public broadcaster is more than worth fighting for, it’s essential.

But the rot has set into the BBC over the past 10 years, as in universities, as in the corporate world, as in government, and now the pendulum is swinging back to centrist sanity these organisations are going to have to clean house in order to regain the trust of the silent majority.

    18. IndependenceWest4104 on

At the very least Panorama needs to clean house.
How many fake or misleading documentaries is that now?
      4?

    20. Good_Old_KC on

      The hell it is.

It’s journalistic standards were down the toilet long before this incident.

They have played an active role in the rise of far right politics in this country.

    21. jodrellbank_pants on

It used to be 20 years ago it was world leading but unfortunately it’s like Kodak it’s lost its way and is an outdated concept and consigned for the waste bin.

Over the top pc has choked the life from it and it should now be consigned to history as is MTV.

I haven’t seen anything from it decent for a while since certain individuals got hold of it now it’s wishy washy, excreting the same trivial balderdash.

Turn off the lights on you way out please.

    22. Nah sorry, it’s not. Well, I tell a lie, maybe it is, but if that’s the case, then allow it to exist on its own merits and stop forcing me to pay for it.

    23. me_thisfuckingcunt on

Of course it is, it’s the standard that most broadcasters around the world hold themselves to, I’m a freelancer in OB and even though most of them wouldn’t admit it all of the broadcasters I work with aspire to ā€˜how would the BBC do it’

    24. EldritchElise on

The irony of the final thing to do them in being right wing nut jobs after years of their biased content being mostly around corbyn, trans people and Boris, is funny if anything.

It`s only going to get worse but you have to laugh as we slide down the helter skelter of fascism.

    25. Greenpadmeds on

Fight for Nonces, lying scum & crooks? Get real, this organisation should be finished with! Why would anyone in their right mind want to keep it going. Get rid of bad rubbish once and for all.

    26. Commercial-Silver472 on

The news has been shit for a while. Overly long articles that struggle to get to the point if they ever do.
