      >The Commission has proposed Britain should pay a €4 billion to €6.5 billion fee to participate in the Security Action for Europe program, or SAFE, people familiar with the matter said. In addition, it is seeking an administration fee of €150 million to €250 million, according to the people, who requested anonymity because the negotiations are private

      >A senior British official described the fees being sought by the Commission as unreasonable and far above what the UK expected to pay for access, confirming London rejected the terms. They said France is taking the most hard-line position in terms of the financial demand from Britain, and that negotiations to bring the numbers down would continue.

Let’s see if UK goes for the “35% participation with no fee proposition” or does the EU Commission come up with a reduced offer…

I dont know why the EU are playing silly buggers when Russia is on their doorstep.

UK wanted out and they have to pay for access now. That is right and logical.

The EU needs to get its act together with enemies on all sides, they dont need a leech which wants all the benefits and none of the responsibilities in their midst.

All of that will naturally go away when the UK decides to rejoin – we would be happy to have them a true member of us once more. But without that, they are just another competitor on the world stage. And the hand we stretch out is one of shared interests (like against russia) but not true friendship. As it should be.

This is an absolutely insane demand that was never going to be accepted, and I imagine the EU knew it wouldn’t be accepted.

    5. Sometimes the EU makes some questionable decisions to be honest.

    6. The bots in this thread aren’t even trying lol… Put some effort in vanka…

ITT – Salty Brits who still don’t understand that as a 3rd country to the EU, they are treated like Japan, South Korea or Canada. You know: Exactly what they voted for…

    8. UK already got some “free” concessions from the EU on the energy and agricultural markets since may. SAFE is a more tricky subject but it could far more largely benefit UK armament industry, who have a lot of interesting stuff to offer..

It’s just all about UK homeland politic, really. Starmer is under pressure at his right and try to show some stands. But so far, this is just playing trump and putin game for now.

Just stop this nonsense already. The EU-UK political track is poisoned, and nothing mutually beneficial will come out of it due to political reasons. There is no goodwill, and there won’t be any until the political generations change, a new set of unforeseen circumstances beats out the hubris (less probable), or either of the sides keels over.

“We left the EU so we would get things for free instead.”

      “Did it work?”

      “…”

It’s easy to want to bite into a part of the contract without wanting to spend a pound sterling, nothing new with London

Typical of the British. They whine because their arms companies can’t benefit from EU funding… but giving up the fund is out of the question for them. And it ends with a threat: “Refusing our companies plays into Putin’s hands.” So typical, so British.

It reminds us of Thatcher’s “I want my money” days.

If the EU really does ban UK contribution to defence projects, it is poking its own eyes out because the French tell them to do it.

Without UK contribution many many major defence projects are screwed.

The amount of UK-bashing teenage bedroom edge-lord warriors here is astounding. Or they are Russian trolls.

No bother. We’ll still come and help our ride or die Polish cousins. But if the Russians get across the Meuse then the French are on their own for a while.
