Ciao a tutti! Sono uno studente finlandese che è venuto in Spagna per assistere al famoso Festival Tomatina a Buñol. Invece, me ne sono andato con traumi, ferite e nessuna giustizia. Ecco la mia storia di derubazione e perché centinaia di altre persone affrontano la stessa cosa ogni anno.
Il 27 agosto 2025, tra le 11:30 e le 12:05, nel bel mezzo della festa del pomodoro, la mia catena d’oro ca. Mi sono stati strappati violentemente dal collo 3000 euro. Sono rimasto contuso, dolorante e sotto shock: l’incidente mi ha rovinato il resto del festival con ansia e trauma duraturi.
A peggiorare le cose, anche il mio amico è stato derubato: il suo portafoglio. Abbiamo denunciato la rapina al più presto. Siamo andati dall’area del festival alla stazione di polizia civile della Guardia Civil di Buñol, dove abbiamo presentato le nostre denunce. C’erano più persone come noi che perdevano oggetti di valore in questo caos.
Più tardi quel giorno, ho rivisto le mie riprese GoPro in hotel. Prove video evidenti hanno mostrato il furto, compreso il volto del sospettato, un braccialetto rosso locale e persino lui che teneva in mano la mia catena rubata. Ho provato a presentarli di persona alle autorità di polizia, ma tutti i miei sforzi sono stati vani.
Nonostante abbia presentato la FIR, fornendo video, foto e dettagli sospetti, sono stato sballottato tra le stazioni di Buñol e Valencia, con il solo messaggio di “inviare tutto tramite e-mail”. Pochi mesi dopo, non ho aggiornamenti. Purtroppo, questo non riguarda solo me. Ogni anno, 100-200 persone vengono sfruttate in questo caos.
La direzione del festival e le autorità locali sanno che ciò accade ogni anno. Eppure: – Nessun avviso/segnaletica adeguata per i turisti. – Nessun controllo preventivo. – Nessuna responsabilità. Questa negligenza mette i visitatori in serio pericolo.
Sono venuto per gioia e cultura. Invece, ho lasciato la Spagna con un trauma, una perdita finanziaria e la sensazione di essere abbandonato dal sistema. Questa non è l’esperienza che ogni turista dovrebbe fare.
Condivido la mia storia perché il silenzio protegge solo i criminali. Spero che parlare apertamente aiuti a evitare che altri vivano lo stesso orrore al festival Tomatina.

While I’m really sorry for what you went through, it sounds traumatising, why on Earth would you wear a 3000€ gold chain to a festival where you’re literally just going to be surrounded by crowds and get tomato juice chucked all over it?
I’m sorry but who the hell goes to the tomatina with a gold chain. You clearly didnt think this through.
Not trying to excuse the thief, but you went to a massive event in a poorer country with thousands of people in a small space and really didn’t think about leaving the gold chain home?
Take this as a lesson and move on.

Well, that’s terrible, and the fact that the justice works so badly too, but… It should be obvious that wearing something so expensive or even the wallet to the tomatina isn’t a good idea

On the other hand. The festival itself is not a scam. There’s scams around it like most things.
I’m really sorry you went through that! You obviously didn’t deserve that. For the future I recommend avoiding expensive jewelry in a context like that, I have to be honest wearing a 3k chain somewhere like that is a terrible, terrible idea. There’s tons of people, everyone is distracted, etc. And also unfortunately when things are stolen it’s very, very rare they find their way back to their owner. Again sorry you had to go through this and for the future (not just in Spain, anywhere in the world where you might find yourself in such a chaotic context) I hope you’ll take different precautions!

Thiefs are everywhere. That doesn’t make it a scam
Better to just not come to Spain, we don’t need more annoying tourists 🤣
