On a slightly unrelated note MrsLapsed and I, along with a few other friends, have floated the idea of house sharing once we reach retirement. I’ve house shared in the past and know that it comes with it’s own issues, but for a group of like minded retirees it sort of makes sense

It’s going to be difficult as an older renter looking to houseshare to find somewhere because of all the ageism.

The Cameron and Brexit contingency have shit lives. I reckon more austerity will solve this

By the time swathes of millennials and Gen Z end up in this exact position the people who engineered the conditions for us to end up struggling to afford a home will be long dead. It really does worry me what’s coming down the line when people are currently struggling to save minimal amounts for retirement and the state pension as it is looks unsustainable now but there’s no appetite to deal with that either.

I saw something the other day that seemed like a good idea.
5 retired couples all sold up and rented a large hmo. Don’t get me wrong it was a “large” house I’d suspect it was used as a nursing home prior.
They all had their own space and bathroom’s shared a huge dining room and living room.
They seemed super happy with the situation.
I can only assume they made a good chunk of money selling their homes prior.

Ah well, they might actually do something about housing if the over 55s are talking about it.

I’m renting right now and i really like it. I don’t have to fix anything or mow the grass or any of the responsibilities that owning brings. If i ever get tired of this place i can cancel my lease and move.
