Wonder how this will affect people being willing to go into witness protection. We already make it so difficult to change your name here, it’s kinda mad they won’t even issue birth certs with altered names for people in witness protection.
The state wouldn’t be falsifying their citizenship, ages, etc. It seems like it defeats the purpose of hiding them at all. In a digital world, with enough effort a name is enough to find someone.
I just looked up a few other countries and in most of the rest of the western world people in witness protection get a new birth cert.
