Had no idea that the ‘Pro’ meant temporary.

There’s nothing more permanent than a temporary solution.

I wonder why this is just happening now. It’s not like they were going to ever get Christ Church back. If they had ever decided to build a new Catholic Cathedral, the title could have been transferred from St Mary’s.

It was between that and St Andrew’s Westland Row, so, good choice.

Well, that’s one long “temporary” being lifted

Perhaps McQuaid didn’t have as much influence in Rome as people thought, if he couldn’t even get it upgraded to a class II.

This is actually insane that Dublin didn’t have a Catholic cathedral for centuries and that even then it was a temporary one until now. Whatever you think of religion the vast majority of the population was Catholic and devoutly so, for that whole period and it’s only now as the Catholic church has never been less important to people that this is resolved.

St Mary’s pro is pretty much the opposite of a typical Catholic cathedral too, very understated, architecturally a bit shit and couldn’t be in a less prominent location, it actually has night time security I think?

  8. They should have bought St Patricks or Christchurch back from that crowd, who must find it costly to maintain

Why do they need such a huge building if there are so few church goers left in this country?
Instead, they should tear it down and build some urgently needed apartments there!
