I don’t think you can pin this on labour. It’s happening all over the world.

Companies are trying as hard as they can to replace what used to be entry level jobs with AI.

What happens in 10 years when there’s no experienced grads to take over from the current mid-level people? Don’t worry about it, the shareholders need returns now.

Not sure it can be blamed on Labour, its more mega corporations trying to appease shareholders with ever increasing share prices.

The biggest cost to most businesses is wages, shareholders are indirectly encouraging businesses to reduce their employees so they can see share increases year on year.

But the Government are going gangbusters on apprenticeships to prop up the house building pledge, so, it’ll all even out when Gen Alpha have more trade skills than any generation under 50 today.

Employers should be paying their fair share of National Insurance. And retired Boomers should not get to escape tax increases when they’re the wealthiest generation and the voters who got us into this mess.

What isn’t being said in articles about youth job cuts is that the jobs are the kind that need to be cut. Young people in western Europe aren’t expected to survive on the kind of pay ours get and they’re given more than shit retail and hospitality.

Young people have lost so much since 2008. The Boomers have escaped losing anything. We all saw what happened when the Tories proposed making them pay for the TV license and when Labour suggested the wealthier ones lose the heating allowance for heating their massive homes that they own at the expense of the renting generations.

I’m disappointed that Starmer and Reeves did not prepare for youth job losses after the NI increase by opening up training opportunities in (for example) the NHS, green energy, etc. We currently import foreigners to do skilled work because we don’t train enough of our own kids. This would have been an excellent opportunity to change that.

Keep raising the minimum wage, keep pricing the inexperienced out of work.

I don’t think it can be overstated how important someone’s first job is to their personal development, that’s why it’s disappointing to see the reduction in differential between the NMW as it’s important to get the youth into the workplace and the lack of financial incentive means they are more likely to go with someone who has the experience and skills already.

Two hours restrictions for under school leaving age (typically 16) on weekdays and Sundays (historic restriction…) Doesn’t help either (increase to 3 hours weekdays, and up to 4-6 hours in Sundays will be a big help).

Entirely on labour feet! Can’t believe people still defending them! It’s making it worse than it should have been…

No way? Increasing minimum wage and national insurance didn’t mean low skilled workers got a boost?
