Lol what a non-story… Why even announce this as some sort of revolutionary idea.
Just stop wasting time, and build homes
I think train stations should get Transport Oriented development (TOD) around them. Not car-dependent semi detatched houses or detached houses surrounding them, but some 3-5 floor flat blocks with a shop or two, with those semis/detached houses being behind them.
My council has just announced a load of flats right next to an existing tram station. At the former B&Q site here.

There’s no proposed path from the development, to the tram station. Nothing. Despite there being a load of space for it, in the form of an unused piece of trackbed.
It amazes me that local authorities aren’t capable of pushing for simple shit like this.
How about just a default yes to all buildings that meet legal parameters? Cut out the local neighbourhood consultation farce and get building.
